GMC has only made one significant change to the Sierra 1500 for the new model year. That's making a turbocharged 3.0-liter 305-hp inline-six Duramax diesel engine the standard powertrain for the AT4X off-road pickup. Additional minor changes include two new wheel options and new colors such as Downpour Metallic and Thunderstorm Gray.
The Sierra 1500 has four distinct engine options, two transmissions and rear- or four-wheel drive. The standard powertrain, attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission, is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder that produces 310 horsepower and 420 pounds-feet of torque. The other engine options include two V-8 options: a 355-hp 5.3-liter and a 420-hp 6.2-liter. Then there's the new Duramax diesel engine that outputs 305 hp and 460 pound-feet. Each engine is attached to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
As for its hauling and towing capacity, the Sierra 1500 can tow up to 13,200 pounds and support a max payload of up to 2,240 pounds.
Inside the cabin of the Sierra 1500, Concord drivers will find features like a 13.4-inch touchscreen that offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. This display uses built-in Google software allowing users to access an app store, maps, and a voice assistant. Additional features include a 12-speaker Bose audio system, wireless phone charging, and multiple USB ports and power outlets.
The Sierra 1500 has many standard safety features, such as a blind spot monitor and automatic emergency braking. There're also off-road assists like Terrain Mode that allow one-pedal driving in low-speed situations. And the Denali can be equipped with GM's Super Cruise hands-free-driving tech.
